How to Choose a Glass Washing Machine

2026/09/30

Choosing a glass washing machine is not simply a matter of selecting the largest or fastest model.

The correct machine depends on your glass type, maximum dimensions, thickness, production speed, surface coating, drying requirements and the equipment connected before and after the washer.

Here are the key factors to consider.

1. What Type of Glass Are You Processing?

Start with the glass itself.

Different applications may require different washing configurations.

Common applications include:

  • Architectural glass
  • Low-E glass
  • Solar glass
  • Appliance glass
  • Automotive glass
  • Shower glass
  • Laminated glass
  • Coated glass
  • Mirror glass

Low-E and coated glass may require softer brush configurations and careful control of the washing process.

2. What Is Your Maximum Glass Size?

The machine width should be selected according to the largest glass sheet you need to process.

For example:

  • 1600 mm
  • 2000 mm
  • 2500 mm
  • 3000 mm
  • Customized jumbo widths

Do not select the machine based only on today’s largest size.

If your product range is expected to increase, future production requirements should also be considered.

3. What Is Your Glass Thickness Range?

The washer should be designed to accommodate your actual thickness range.

For example, a production line may need to process:

3–25 mm

The machine structure, transport system, brush configuration and adjustment system should all be suitable for the intended range.

4. What Production Speed Do You Need?

Higher speed does not automatically mean better performance.

The washing system needs to maintain sufficient cleaning and drying quality at the required production speed.

The correct balance depends on:

Glass Type + Surface Condition + Brush Configuration + Water System + Drying System + Line Speed

5. What Brush Configuration Do You Need?

The number and type of washing brushes should be selected according to the application.

For example, Low-E glass may require soft brushes.

High-volume production may require multiple washing stages.

The objective is to achieve stable cleaning quality without unnecessary complexity.

6. How Important Is Drying?

A glass washer is not complete when the glass is clean.

The glass also needs to leave the machine properly dried for downstream processing.

Drying systems can include:

  • Air knives
  • Blowers
  • Multiple drying sections
  • Customized air-flow configurations

The drying configuration should be selected according to glass size, surface condition and production speed.

7. How Will the Washer Connect to Your Production Line?

Consider the equipment before and after the washer.

For example:

Double Edger → Washing Machine → Tempering

or:

Cutting → Edging → Washing → IGU Production

The conveyor height, transfer direction, glass flow and control communication should be considered during machine selection.

8. Do You Need Automation?

If your factory processes many different glass sizes, automatic scanning and machine adjustment can reduce manual setup.

TECHWIN has integrated scanning, double edging, washing and unloading in automated production lines.

9. Consider Future Production

A washing machine is a long-term investment.

Before purchasing, consider:

  • Future glass sizes
  • Expected production growth
  • New glass products
  • Future automation
  • Integration with new equipment

TECHWIN Recommendation

Before recommending a washing machine, TECHWIN normally considers:
